I won't deny you that there's a similarity between the two synth-organ backing parts, but there is a noticeable difference in chord progression between the two. Each progression is made up of 4 chords, and the first 3 in each song are identical. Listen carefully to the fourth. And I apologize in advance for my nerdly music-theory analysis. The progression in "Warm Place" resolves to a major chord, the Tonic/scale step 1 of the key the song is in. The Pink Dots progression resolves to a minor chord, the Submediant/scale step 6 of the key the song is in. It's worth noting that the tonic major chord's relative minor is the submediant minor, but the "feel" that each chord brings as the final "resting point" for the progression is fundamentally different. Whether this difference is materially significant to the overall similarity between the two is subjective I guess. The synthesized organs do sound pretty much alike, at at rate.
