Lest the name Ellingtonians may mislead anyone, I should explain that although Ray Nance was for some years
a member of the Duke's orchestra, to the best of my knowledge none of the other players ever was,
and this is not a Duke Ellington combination.
It is, however, a nice, neat personable little group, and although its music may not be in the most modern vein,
it is tasteful, and the players are by no means devoid of ability or imagination when it comes to the straightforward
tuneful swing that is the basis of all four titles.
Most featured soloist is, of course, Ray Nance himself, who, in addition to playing trumpet
and violin (the slow Moon Mist is throughout a violin solo), also does a spot of singing.
But all other members of the group (including the bass) are featured and I think you will
like Bill Richards's piano playing and Lawrence Rix's unassuming guitar.
