Thanks for your recent email to Definitive Technology. The small delicate wire you have described is a heat sensor that should attach from the internally mounted power amplifier board to the back of the 8" woofer's magnet. If the woofer gets too hot, it will cause the amplifier in the subwoofer to temporarily shut down.
